Y'golonac
Today's Illustration Friday challenge is 'Fat'.
For those of you who are aware of the Cthulhu mythos, you have undoubtedly recognized Y'golonac, the Great Old One mentioned infamously in the horrid Revelations of Glaaki volume 12. He is large and in charge. Here is just one quote from this dark book:
"...for even the minions of Cthulhu dare not speak of Y'golonac; yet the time will come when Y'golonac strides forth from the loneliness of Aeons to walk once more among men..."
I found this photo in a National Geographic book many years ago.
Then I drew this sketch.
After which I used tracing paper to combine the two.
Neat huh !
Oh, just before you go...here is another quote (I have several more but they are too long to type at this moment) from the dreaded Revelations of Glaaki volume 12:
"When he who passes in Darkness comes again, the wall shall shake. The illusion shall crumble and man, cringing in terror, shall destroy himself rather than face the gods in battle."
Sweet dreams !

Quite scary, but excellent work. I really like your site. Thanks for your comments on my blog, too! Keep in touch :)
Thanx for being scared, Buep ! I try to keep my odd art under control, but this is Kalamazoo and strange things tend to happen here...
:-D
Steve this is amazing work!!! I have never heard of this guy but this is amazing and compelling stuff!!! WOW!
Wow! This is most excellent!
Thank you very much, ValGalArt ! The Cthulhu mythos is pretty obscure stuff, and Y'golonac is even more so. Glad you liked it !
:-)
You are most kind, Debi !
=^_^=
Wow! Bravo!
WOW...wow!!!
I like the Idea of "facing the gods in battle" , that would be an interesting theme!!!
Here is another "Bravo"!
Thanx for the kudo's, Big A ! I rilly appreciate it !
:-)
It gives ya the supernatural chills and exited goosebumps all at once, doesn't it Ldahl.
Brrrrrrrr !!!
And thank you for your kind words !
Too tantalisingly creepy. Must get my boys, who are aware of the Cthulhu mythos, to check this out!
it looks very compelling in color but i like the line drawing a lot just on its own.
Heya Andrea ! It's nice to know there are other fans of the Cthulhu Mythos. Tell your boys I have a sketch of Cthulhu himself on my blog from last year, maybe around Feb or March 2005.
All praise the Ancient Ones !
:-D
You know, I agree with you KatOhmtastic. I also like the animated cartoon feel to it. That's why I kinda hate to ink and color some of my art. Thanks for the compliments !
Oh, Hell yeah! Love it. Man you draw the coolest stuff.
love
Neat and well done. I'm not up to volume 12 yet. I live in a small town and unfortunately they only go up to volume 11.
Just be glad this wasn't an actual photograph, Unknown. (fortunatly I keep those locked away in a deep dark cave that has an Elder Sign on the doorway and a NightGuant on guard).
:-D
Luv.
Maybe that's for the best, Janey. After all, look what it's done to me...
:-D
Thanx for the double take, SeaAngel !
:-)
Hi Steve,
this reminds me of a very old pre-surealist painting, I think it depicted Hell. I can't remember the title or the artist though.
Bodies swilling through the fires being scythed.
Excellent stuff.
this is like a dark anime charecter, I am very glad this is only a drawing and not a real thing.
You might be thinking of Bosch or Blake, Jayster. They both did some disturbing art way back then.
Thanx for the Kudos !
:-)
Well PrincessPepperCloud, I don't think CartoonNetwork will show something like this, even on Adult Swim...
:-D
missed seeing this one earlier. Wonderful piece; series of pieces - Interesting to see your process.
