Monster

Thank you Gina at Illustration Friday for suggesting this subject matter!
I've been itching to post this fellow for a while.

This is a RedCap. They are named for their practice of staining their caps in enemy blood. They can and will eat anything- flesh, bone, bricks, wooden doors, tax returns, religious nuts...
They are the stuff of nightmares and bad attitudes.

Show some manners, or one of these 'Monsters' will pop out of your dreams and make you live to regret it (if you survive the encounter)...

Don't worry Ginger, I'll rally the troops and circle the wagons (well, pumpkin carraiges) to protect your bedroom from unpleasant visitations.

A pinch of salt and turning widdershins three times with a nixie on one shoulder and a pooka on the other. POOF !

Sweet dreams, Ginger !

Not very friendly, eh? It's a great, cruel image. I only have one question: he can't go through closed doors and windows, isn't that right? That is, I have locked my door and am about to go in bed...

You are safe as long as you don't insult a RedCap, Georg.
Also, don't invite one inside, you know what happens with vampires and other supernatural beings that get invited indoors...

RedCaps originated somewhere among the Britsh Isles/Ireland, ValGalArt. They are border goblins.

If you check out Brian Froud's 'Faeries' picture book of illustrations, you'll find (somewhere in the middle) another sketch done by him of a RedCap.

There is also a short animated film, named 'Faeries', (1981 Family Home Entertainment) maybe 30 minutes long, that briefly shows some RedCaps near the end.

I'm just carrying on a long tradition, ValGalArt...

Beautiful colours and nasty monster. I could let him take me because no-one looking like that could be evil?!

So much depth,dimension, and colour!
Brilliant!!
Can he come eat my husband's rotten old sneakers or can I at least blame him for it if they happen to disappear?
