Allegan Fair

Last month I took my parents to the Allegan county fair, it's about 45 minutes from Kalamazoo. This place is huge, we go each year. You can see the giant chicken statue in the top left photo that is at the entry-way to the fair.

Other than the rides and animal barns and food / game booths, this fair also has several large vendor pavilons and a neat historical village including an industrial museum. I won a yellow teddy bear for mom. In one of the photo's you will see the famous 'Worlds Largest Puzzle'. I don't know if that is a true claim, but the thing it pretty darn big. I didn't take pictures of the 'Worlds Largest Hog' nor the 'Worlds Smallest Pony' neither the 'Worlds Biggest Alligator'...

I figured the Puzzle would be entertainment enough for ya.

Tell me what you ate ... I think your fair food would be excellent and very different from ours - I like fairy floss and usually take home lots of jams and chutneys :)

That would be corn-dogs and chicken on a stick and elephant ears and sno-cones and soft serve icecream. I don't rilly go for the cotton candy or the candied nuts or the polish sausage. My dad likes the mexican food (tamales) and my mom likes the foot-long chili dogs with fried potato wedges.

And that's not counting the pizza by the slice, cheese burgers, onion rings, cinnamon buns, popcorn, and home-made fudge!

Mmmmmm ! Mmmmmmm!

What are elephant ears - I can see the sign but don't know what they are. I think cotton candy is the same as our fairy floss? You must have good teeth Steve :) Bet your Mum said "I don't have to cook dinner tonight!" with a big grin covered in chilli sauce :) Home made fudge - I WANT SOME NOW!!!

Well aren't you a good son, winning a teddy for mom. I went to our state fair once. Being a big city kid it was fun to see the 4 H stuff. It was the only time I've ever been that close up to a cow. So that's where milk comes from.

Elephant ears are pastries that are similair to donuts but they are flat and oblong in shape with cinnamon sugar on top (other toppings are available- chocolate, apples, cream cheese...). They smell divine, and taste even better. But they gotta be hot for you to rilly get the full effect!

I think your Fairy Floss is the same as Cotton Candy, it's just sugar spun into a cotton like cloud of sweetness on a stick/cone.

I feel your pain, Anonymous. I WANT FUDGE TOO !
:-D

That's also where cheeseburgers come from too, Janey!
Mmmmmmmm!!!
Make mine a double with crispy bacon and a side o' hot french fries!

I always make sure Mom gets a toy from the fair, y'see, that is only 'fair' for her...
:-D
