After The Rain

This time the challenge from Illustration Friday is 'Rain'.
And ya know what ? Following after almost every significant rain shower, I find all types of mushrooms and toadstools growing amongst my lawn. The Faeries go nutz, the Grigs dance a jig, and the Pixies...well the Pixies are just plain naughty.

What you see here is 'Delicious Lactarious' that I used for freelance artwork many many years ago, back when I had more hair on my head.
Just so that ya know...

Hey Steve, this is great! We always look for wild mushrooms also. Great job.

When the wild mushrooms and toadstools appear, so do tiny itsy bitsy little toads...followed by very large toads (I wonder how they get so big...)
Thanx TeriC !

This is a very nice looking mushroom. I like how you've created the different texture of the top in contrast to its gills beneath. It's really bizarre how those huge mushrooms can just sprout up almost instantly...and then the shrivel away when it gets dry.

That shroom looks hungry, ready to swallow up the rain, and any tiny people that come along. Mmmmm... people...

Hey Steve~ with all the rain we've been having here in NH it's going to be 'mushroom city' soon. Huge fungi have appeared in the wierdest places on the trees. One family had so many on their tree in the front yard, that they placed a fake nose and eyes right in the middle.

Caused a bit of a traffic jam.

Nice illustration. Looks like theres Mush Room on it for a caterpiller or two.

Great Mushroom and I am glad you provided us with the Latin name so we know what we are viewing! I agree with you about the mushrooms appearing after the rain. I find them in my garden the next day all over the place.
Really super detail and beautifully done!

We had these in our yard recently, after days of rain. Beautiful sketch!

Great idea! We have them popping up everywhere in the pasture this week!

Doesn't this 'shroom need a cheshire cat sitting on top of it? or was that a catepiller? I am going to look for those toads next time I see one

They are always lurking under the surface soil to pop up when it's damp, Carla. They are sneaky !

Maybe you are talking about the local Flying Purple People Eater, Tony. The mushrooms occasionally learn to talk, that's all...
:-D

There does seem to be a bit of fungi occurence up there near N H and Mass, Ginger. Lovecraft was fond of bringing it up in his stories. One of my trees (a box elder) lost a big limb and now shelf fungi grow in that spot.
Oops, the trees are looking at me again, gotta go !
:-D

So Pixies are at the top of the naughty elfen food chain? Awesome mushroom, I love the stylish lid and how under the lid looks like rubbery gills. Great job!
